Blue screen problems already

Posted on August 11th, 2008 at 5:59pm - Comment on 'Blue screen problems already'.

I bought Lappy earlier this year, in January. I had no problems until February, a few weeks after I'd installed my graphics tablet; I got my first Blue Screen on Lappy.

I didn't know if it was the program for the graphics tablet which had started it but decided to remove it anyway. Just in case.

It's all completely removed but I'm still getting random Blue Screens.

Is Lappy too warm? Blue Screen.
Did Li move Lappy too quickly when shuffling around? Blue Screen.
Has Lappy been on for more than four hours? Blue Screen.
Has Li had Photoshop open for more than half an hour? Blue Screen.

I think the Blue Screen I'm getting is the same Blue Screen I got on my old laptop...when the RAM had corrupted. But of course, it could be a software problem.

I'm not sure where I stand on this: can I take Lappy back to Tesco (where I bought him) and get a refund? Will they pay (which I think they should, since he's less than a year old) for him to be looked at and, if necessary, fixed?

For now, I'm off to make sure that everything is backed up onto my external hard drive and anything important, put onto a few CDs and my USB sticks. (You can never be too careful!)

Finding new music

Posted on August 3rd, 2008 at 11:01am - Comment on 'Finding new music'.

I joined Last.fm^ yesterday and started playing some tracks from my favourite bands & artists.

After I grew bored of that, I took a look around the band/artist's page and noticed that there's a little "Similar Artists" section, with other bands and artists who sound like the one you're viewing.

I started clicking around these and listening to the tracks and finding more new-to-me bands. I happily spent about three hours listening to new stuff, favouriting the stuff I really liked and adding stuff to my library.

I don't watch much TV and don't even remember the last time I watched the Box or Kerrang, so the only way I usually find new stuff to listen to, is off the radio. And I'm normally forced to suck it up and listen to the crap being played by Plymouth Sound, Radio 1 or Radio 2. :(
So, yeah. It's not very often that I listen to new stuff and when I do, it's usually bloody Pop, RnB, Hip Hop or Rap.
I prefer stuff like Linkin Park, Nickelback, Staind, Queen Adreena.

Via Last.fm, I've 'discovered' new stuff1 I like and want to listen to! Breaking Benjamin, Mudvayne, Skillet, Evans|Blue, Taproot, Three Days Grace, Collide and Seether being the big 'I LOVE!'s.

Happy. :)

1 - I know that some of these bands, if not all, have been around a while. I've just never been able to listen to them before. :P

Myke is 20 now

Posted on August 1st, 2008 at 8:30pm - Comment on 'Myke is 20 now'.

Wednesday the 30th of July was Myke's 20th birthday. I'd booked the day off work, so I could spend it with him. :)

Phoned him up in the morning, once he'd announced he was up. Wished him a happy birthday and told him I'd let him know when I was on my way.

Around ten o'clock, I booked a taxi to come RIGHT NOW. Myke thought I was getting my bus to town and then his bus to his house.
I got to his house and rang the doorbell and Myke answered and called me a little bugger because he'd been expecting me to say I was on the bus and had NO IDEA that I was taking a taxi. :(

We went up to his room and I couldn't stand it any longer; he HAD to open the presents I'd bought him RIGHT NOW, THIS VERY SECOND!!!

The first present from me:

The Whitey mug

A mug with a photo I'd taken of Whitey^ on it. :D
He opened it and was all "AWWWWWWWWW" and gave me a big hug. :)
I kind of thought he might not use it much, since it's a normal mug size and he drinks his tea from giant mugs. But no, he's been using it, so I'm very happy. :)

The second and main present from me, I'd had to smuggle into his mum's car when he wasn't around and then she had to smuggle it into the house when he was at work last week.
When Myke was ready to open this present, I asked his mum to get it out of it's hiding place for me and I took it upstairs to him.

I'd bought this present for him a few weeks before and was DYING to get it out and try it but I wasn't able to. :(

Wii Fit

YEAH! The Wii Fit! He got all excited and he was very happy to get that particular present! He said that, when I told him his present was bigger than I thought it would be, he thought it might be the Wii Fit and was hoping that was what I'd got him.

I'm pretty sure he likes it, at least a tiny bit, since I can barely get him off the bloody thing. :P

After he'd opened all his presents, we played on the Wii Fit for a few hours. His mum, who is like, the coolest mother EVER, even played with us. So much fun! We ended up all sweaty and gross. :P

Around lunch time, we went to have our picnic. Except we couldn't have it outside, because it kept raining (heavily). So we had it in his conservatory instead, while watching a film.
French Fancies^, oat flapjacks, caramel shortcakes, snack-a-jacks, cheese toasties, etc was our picnic food and the film we watched was "Apocalypto" (which is a beautiful film but HORRIBLE).

After that, we just played on the Wii Fit again until it was time for me to go home. :)

I think he had a good day. :)
